49ERS WANT TO SHANGHAI A PAUL MCCARTNEY CONCERT..................

DESPERATE TIMES CALL FOR DESPERATE MEASURES. AT THE LEAST, I EXPECT MCCARTNEY FANS TO BE MORE CIVLIZED THAN NFL FANS. HOWEVER, IT LOOKS AS IF OUR STADIUM AUTHORITY IS HAVING TROUBLE GETTING NON-NFL EVENTS BOOKED FOR LEVI'S STADIUM. WHY ELSE WOULD THEY TARGET A CONCERT THAT WAS ALREADY BEING PROPOSED FOR A DIFFERENT LOCATION?

Paul McCartney concert: Let it be at new stadium, 49ers say

The 49ers are in talks with Paul McCartney to perform the opening concert at their new Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara - a move that would effectively yank the rug out from under San Francisco's plans for the music legend to headline a final send-off concert at Candlestick Park.
Mayor Ed Lee personally invited McCartney to close the Stick when the former Beatle played at the Outside Lands festival in Golden Gate Park last year.
The idea was to say goodbye to the ballpark where the Beatles played their final paid concert in 1966.
McCartney's reps and the city had been talking since Lee made the offer, and City Hall was convinced that the show was all but a done deal.
It all changed, however, when McCartney's envoys, including his worldwide concert promoter, Barrie Marshall, toured Candlestick last month and let slip that they had just visited Levi's Stadium as part of negotiations with the Niners for an opening concert there in early August.
It was a blindside hit that had city officials feeling betrayed.
Team execs insisted to San Francisco officials that they had been approached about hosting a McCartney show by Live Nation, the national promoter that has a financial stake in Sir Paul's management company.
Besides, the Niners said they had a fiduciary responsibility to their sponsors - including Levi's, which has a $220 million naming-rights deal at the stadium - to host a certain number of concerts a year.
"Classless" is how one San Francisco official greeted the Niners' play - which some see as the latest in a string of insults aimed at the city since owner John York announced in 2006 that the team was leaving town.
Sarah Ballard, spokeswoman for the city's Recreation and Park Department, which runs Candlestick, expressed disappointment at the prospect of losing the concert. But she steered clear of any name calling, noting that the decision on where to play was ultimately McCartney's.
Mayoral spokeswoman Christine Falvey said that regardless of how it all plays out, "the city is going to have a great farewell for Candlestick for the public." A representative for Live Nation said the company had no comment.
In a statement, the Niners said they book events on behalf of the Santa Clara Stadium Authority and "we continue to seek world-class sports and entertainment events that benefit the entire region."

  1. Well, I figure that there are one or two stadium shows annually up for grabs in the bay area. It does reek of desperation but it would look really pathetic if absolutely no concerts were booked the first year of operation after such events being so heavily touted by proponents.

Even Sir Paul is touring for money though. If Candlestick is more attractive to him on those terms I'd expect he'll go with that.

    1. This is an obvious desperate measure by the 49ers/Stadium Authority. Perhaps the team should spend more time worrying about keeping its players out of jail. In case you haven't heard, Aldon Smith was arrested in Los Angeles for allegedly stating he had a bomb in his possession while at the airport.

  2. RIAL - here's a new article for you: " Sports Events

San Francisco 49ers tied for most player arrests in 2014 so far"

Also - concert promoters need to gauge the noise level from airplanes flying over/near the stadium. Would you pay good money to attend a concert, only to have noise interrupt the concert every few minutes?

  3. Hello MCL,

It would appear that Santa Clara has lost its village idiot for good, at least from what I've seen.

I got into a trife with some folks over at SJI, when a guy named "Jason Lundengrun" appeared with typical Rowen'esq insults and banter. One thing I noticed early on was the posting times were off.

Example, I posted at 11am, but the responses came at 9am. What happens is the timestamp for a post is based on the client PC's system time. Meaning, Rowen was posting from 2 time zones over.

There is a real life Jason Lundengrund (the only one in the USA) and when I contacted him, he said he was not posting on SJI.

So likely Rowen has moved close to this guy, and is impersonating him. Old dog, same tricks, less toes.

  4. Wait Robert,

If I'm reading this correctly I can only think of Hawaii behind us in time. Is Rowen living in Maui now?

He's an old (beyond his years) dog now--which a much diminished bite. You might say he's been debarked also.

    1. Oh you're right, how could I forget that earlier is west? Heh we all get mind slips sometimes.

    2. I was reading SJI tonight with some popcorn. Great entertainment! Does Rowen have a relative in Iowa who lets him stay in the garage? Is it easy to get free medical care to the standard of the VMC in Iowa?

    3. Maybe Rowen didn't understand the 2 hour time zone change, and set it in the wrong direction.
I think Hawaii is 3 hours behind Pacific Standard Time. Right now, it's 2:35 here, and 11:35 in Hawaii.

Robert - I hope that the real person in Iowa contacts SJI to have the impersonator's comments removed. Rowen has been known to impersonate people before (Anthony M, for example.)

  5. Um, does this qualify as "defaming" people on the internet. Is Rowen now proving the correctness of the poll results on this page?

  6. Rowen had been imitating FordWarbuton on SJI, but was caught, so apparently has started impersonating someone else. He needs to get a life.

    1. If its him, is he perhaps violating a court order?

    2. Maybe that's why he appears to be out of state. But if he's out of state, how is he going to go to the 49er games. I'm sure his friends on the council must have a seat in the Santa Clara suite reversed for him.

    3. It's him alright.

Just had 2 campaign managers call me and say that Rowen contacted them, claiming my comments were homophobic.

Last time was a NAL, because the statute of limitations had run out. He's willfully refreshed the limitations, and I plan on going after him to the fullest extent of the law.

If he has a bench warrant, shouldn't the bailiffs at council meetings be taking him into custody?

    4. Hey Robert, if there is bench warrant for Rowen's arrest, it should be brought to the attention of SCPD. Has a judge issued such a warrant? Do you have a copy?

      What is an NAL?

    5. If he were incarcerated, things wouldn't be all that bad for Rowen. He might have a chance to meet Aldon Smith!

  7. After a long and welcome absence, Rowen has appeared at the previous 2-3 Santa Clara City Council meetings - check the videos.
