Civic virtue is the cultivation of habits of personal living that are claimed to be important for the success of the community.
Thus, we can conclude:
- When an elected official lies on behalf of a specific special interest, it is not a civic virtue
- When elected officials accept thousands of dollars in campaign contributions, it is not a civic virtue
- When elected officials are not serving the best interests of the people, it is not a civic virtue
- When elected officials do not perform their fiduciary responsibilities, it is not a civic virtue.
- When elected officials use public assets for personal use, it is not a civic virtue
- When a citizen physically & verbally assaults a female transit employee, it is not a civic virtue
- When a citizen doesn't work or pay taxes, it is not a civic virtue.
- When a citizen has no health insurance and depends on the taxpayers to pay their health care, it is not a civic virtue
What I admire about this list is that you've kept it very simple and easy to understand. Perhaps a copy s/b faxed to city hall and the Weekly?
ReplyDeleteSC city hall does not care about civic virtues. They are civic vultures.
