ANY WORD WHAT THE SUPER BOWL'S AFFECT HAS BEEN ON BSL SALES?
HAVE THEY SOLD OUT THE NEW SANTA CLARA STADIUM? AM I IN DANGER OF BEING THE ONLY ONE ON MY BLOCK WITHOUT A BSL?
"HEY! GET YOUR COTTON CANDY! EVERY BAG COMES WITH YOUR VERY OWN BSL!"
Now the Merc is reporting that you can buy a brick for $400 or so that they'll incorporate into the stadium with something you inscribe on it. Maybe Steve Stavis can do some poetry on one?
I think we're dealing with the new religion here. Man, I couldn't even joke about the 49ers last offensive series this past week. Ridiculous.
This looks really desperate. It just looks like BSL sales and potential naming rights sales are not doing well - so they now have to sell bricks.
I think that Steve Stavis, our former SCUSD superintendent, is still on youtube reciting poetry to the 49ers and shilling in favor of the stadium. That was before he allowed himself and our schools to be used in the Yes on Measure J campaign.
Its a desperate cry for help! The revenues for the new 49ers stadium are going to come in so under projected they may have to auction off Councilmember Mahan's football jersey in order to generate sufficient cash flow to keep the stadium going.
I'd actually like to have a video of Mahan's reaction when the 49ers failed on 4th down. That I would pay for.
I should be mentioned to anyone who doesn't know that Stavis lives in Los Gatos and collects a nice pension from Santa Clara while having done his utmost to alienate many residents who pay for his pension.
Mahan was probably thinking, "Damn! There goes my Assembly seat!"
I'm curious to know if there is an exact dollar amount the schools have received from the so-called "stadium benefits" that were promised by Measure J supporters.
Right now there is redevelopment property tax money frozen in escrow at the Santa Clara county level because the 49ers have sued to get that money. Millions of dollars of that money are supposed to flow to our schools and to our other local (city/county) government agencies. So the after effects of Measure J, because Measure J allowed the 49ers a foot in the door to try to get redevelopment property tax dollars - and thus the apparent feeling that they have a right to sue, have resulted in the schools being denied millions of taxpayer dollars while those dollars are frozen in escrow.
Recall that Measure J didn't promise the 49ers $40 million, instead, Measure J set $40 million as an upper threshold. 49ers supporters and the media seem to argue that voters 'earmarked' $40 million for the 49ers. That is not true.
The 49ers lawsuit which seeks to grab RDA dollars is due to be heard in March.
Amazing how much the 49ers care about the needs of our schools. Perhaps we should raise taxes on tattoo parlors as a means for funding our schools. If you get half of the 49ers players to frequent those establishments, we might be able to rebuild Wilcox High School.
I wonder if the Weekly can follow some 49ers getting tatooed in at our local parlors. I would show the team's support for local business and might lead to increased business from other inside and outside Santa Clara.
Mahan would have as much luck getting on the assembly as Caserta. It would be nice to be rid of her, but I don't think it's going to happen.
A little light reading: Remember the 49ers sued the Oversight Board and Santa Clara County to put a freeze on the RDA money held in escrow, because they want $34.4 million of our RDA property tax dollars? The case is due to be heard March 22. The judge who allowed the 49ers to have a temporary restraining order placed on the RDA funds - effectively preventing all schools/city/council agencies which were due to receive those funds from being able to access those funds - has now retired and a new judge has been assigned.
Here's the link, and the year and case number to enter. Be sure to read the filing from Santa Clara County Counsel Lori Pegg/Lizanne Reynolds about why the 49ers shouldn't get the money. (Opening Brief of County of Santa Clara Auditor-Controller Vinod K. Sharma) It's a beautiful piece of work on the part of our county attorneys. Huge thanks to them for pointing out all of the flaws in the 49ers attorneys' arguments.

What's hilarious is how the agency which initially estimated the parcel's value at $40 million then had to admit they're not experienced in land valuation.
Thanks for the link Truth! Wow and I mean WOW!! What a terrific job done by County council Pegg, Reynolds and staff. To assert, with proof, that the stadium funding "mechanism" (Predevelopment Funding Agreement and other agreements) violated Measure J itself is quite something!
It was a completely stupid move to form the Stadium Authority whose board members were also current seated City Council members and then assert that the SA and City were two separate and distinct entities. The bad part is if the SA meets the definition of "City" under Redevelopment Dissolution Law, does that also mean the City of Santa Clara is now responsible for Stadium Authority debt?
Regardless if the its by legal decree, or there is a just separation between the two, the actions of the Stadium Authority will be linked to the City of Santa Clara and, eventually, we (taxpayers) will be liable for the stadium's financial obligations.
There were a certain amount of individuals who voted yes because they thought it would be cool to go to a game in their town.
ReplyDeleteI certainly hope they've all ponied up.
1. If BSL sales had skyrocketed because of the 49ers Super Bowl appearance, it would have been reported
Delete2. According to the new stadium website, there are still quite a few BSL's which haven't been sold.
3. There still isn't a naming rights sponsor willing to pay $330 million.

Perhaps Dominic Caserta should purchase one of those bricks with an inscription that says, "I am not Fredo Corleone!"

DeleteThere's House of Pain tatoo parlor on El Camino!
ReplyDeleteSo after they can't raise enough money selling bricks, will they have a bake sale?
Yes! They'll have bake sales, car washes and lemonade stands!

Or better yet, how about a store that sells dreadlock hair extensions?
DeletePatty Mahan will never get elected to higher office. That video from the Measure J debate will follow her around like a shadow.

ROTFL! Basically the 49ers attorney's argument is, "Santa Clara is a bunch of Indian givers!" "WAH!-WAH!-WAH!"
DeleteIt may come down to how much the judge loves the 49ers. It clouds a lot of people's thinking...
DeleteWhat's hilarious is how the agency which initially estimated the parcel's value at $40 million then had to admit they're not experienced in land valuation.
DeleteAs a comparison however, the city is evidently valuing a nearby parcel of 11 acres at about $26K a year-not that it should bother anyone...

DeleteYes, but per Pegg's and Reynolds' assertions, the result for Stadco and the SA is: "Bullet, meet foot!"
DeleteOr: "Shit meet fan!"
